The Majority of the information presented here is contained in the forward for The Shredded Chef: 120 Recipes for Building Muscle, Getting Lean, and Staying Healthy. Since I already had The Shredded Chef, I didn't get much more out of it.
Not exactly what I expected. I was expecting more of a workout plan, instead it's more of a detailed explanation into why certain workouts work. It does have a few workout plans, but all of them require the use of gym equipment. I read the description and reviews in depth before purchasing and was quite surprised that this was not what I was getting. I'm a huge fan of his books and cookbooks and will purchase more, just slightly disappointed because I really thought I did my homework before purchasing.
I've been doing resistance training with free weights for over 40 years and these are the best books I've found. Yes, before the Internet and in fact, before there were Nutrition Labels on food. Talk about driving blind. In addition to this book, I've purchased all the books by Michael Matthews here on Amazon.Pros:* I like his writing style.* I especially like the fact Michael provides a reference source within all the topics. I feel this gives him HUGE credibility and know he isn't justthrowing around his personal opinions* Michael provides invaluable support on his blog, provides recommendations to problems, and answers tons of questions personally. I don't know how he finds the time.Cons: I wished Michael would work with Amazon to provide a discount when purchasing the same book in both paperback and Kindle. Yes I have several in both formats.
Alot of books out there don't live up to their title, butthis one does. In a very short while, Mike Matthews explains how to get around the worst partof working out for people who hate cardio. He helps the reader learn the effective proven methods for burning fatand doing it in as little time as possible actually doing the work.He really does help the reader learn how to apply mximum effort, to create maximum gain, while keeping the time spentdoing the cardio, down to a comfortable portion of the overall workout and fitness scheme. Some of his regular readers will note that he reinforces the points he's made in other books, and adds information not covered elsewhere, so for me, having read his BiggerLeaner Stronger and The Shredded Chef as well as listened to a lot of his podcasts, I've been looking for, and found, how to add the extra missing link to my workouts and have already started to feel the changes over the course of the first two weeks of applying the workout changes outlined.Using Mike's methods outlined across the three books, I've lost 50 pounds in 9 months, and traded an additional 30 pounds of fat into muscle. I've still got a bit to go, but with Mike's plans and advice, I've mapped out what needs to be done, and milestones I'll have along the way. My goal shifted from simply 'wanting to be able to buy standard pants sizes' to wanting to actually achieve a low teen bodyfat percentage. There's already four inches of slack in the thighs of pants I bought in January of 2017
Great book. Best description of the components that make up a healthy diet that I've ever read. Order of importance: 1. How much you eat 2. Macronutrient balance 3. What you eat 4. Diet timing I've never read it explained quite this way before. A diet pyramid that makes sense, is easy to remember, and it works.I've tried lots of diets like low-carb etc. I've read lots of books about diet, nutrition, and exercise. As explained here, anything based on what you eat or when, is a diet doomed to ultimate failure. I've improved my physique, gained muscle, eat better than ever, and have lost a stubborn 10 lbs.Excellent. Good no-nonsense writing. Great tips on exercise and how different workouts affect your body.
I've been reading these books and am starting to lose weight with his nutritional advice alone, haven't even started working out yet. I'm a lifelong yo-yo dieter about to start a journey from 360 pounds down to my goal of 200. Mike makes it seem almost easy. Can't wait to start!
I just finished this book a few minutes ago and I really enjoyed it. It's more of a follow-up, in my opinion, to the BLS (Bigger, Leaner, Stronger) book. Cardio Sucks! really focuses on the HIIT exercise program, which I'm going to start to incorporate into my workouts.I'm a huge fan of Mike Matthews. I own several Legion supplement items, and I own 3 of his books. Now if I can get the courage up to ask him for an autographed copy of a book that I don't have yet, without looking creepy, that'd be great.Final line: This book is a quick and easy read and I recommend it to anybody looking to expand out from weightlifting to help lower their body fat percentage.
A concise extremely well written book. I have been an avid weight trainer for 40 years and I think this is among the most helpful of small books.I don’t agree with some of the authors methodology for deconditioned people but that is fine. People need to use common sense in training. The way Mike break’s topics down is very effective. I highly recommend this book for people seeking maximum fat loss through training and diet.
